Do you like the current boat you have? Is the only reason you are thinking of getting the new boat is because of the $2500 in work needed? I would spend the $2500 to fix the current boat and get back out there and enjoy it. Chances are if you get the new boat after a couple years you will have to spend $2500 to fix something on it too and still be making the payments. If the current boat doesn't meet your needs or you have been considering getting a new boat then this could be a good opertunity.
I have a 78 21' fiberform that I use primarly for wakeboarding/waterskiing and the occational vacation trip. While I could have a new fancy boat just for wakeboarding and skiing I wouldn't have the money to spend as much time on the water or have all the toys. I've been very happy with my boat so if it needed a couple thousand to fix I would spend the money to fix it.
