Is your '73 hull in good shape? If everything about it is good: strong transom, good gelcoat, seats, wiring ect. Repower it. Go get a nice 4 stroke outboard. We repowered a '71 Century OB (17' Buccaneer)in '87 and gave it 10 more good years. We then took that engine and had it installed on a new 19' Larson. The Larson was 2 feet longer, got on plane better and went faster with the same engine. The moral of the story; Not sure... The new hull was lighter and more efficient but the old hull ran fine with just normal maintanence for 25 years. The new hull has a better design (Deltaconic) but the quality of the seats, hardware and fiberglass aren't great. When I repowered the Century, I installed new gauges, steering helm and seats and cleaned it up and it was great. By the end of that life though, it was truly beat from countless hours of skiing and messing about. It really depends how good your present hull is. I would look closely at the transom.. C.
