I have an older Dell laptop that I put the 100G Travelstar into, it worked OK even though Dell said it would not... But I did have an issue with it causing the laptop to over-heat so I went back to the original drive. Not sure if you might have similar issues with the HP, seeing as Dells tend to have some heat issues anyway (I have one of the models that now has an extended warranty due to heat related issues). Anyway, that's all just to say that you can easily buy the larger drive from someplace that has a good return policy and try it out to see if it works. I ended up keeping the one I bought, it came with an external drive case, now I just use it for various backups.
