Said the man as he thawed the frozen gas tank with a road flare (really!)
And putting a ladder on a table counts as stupid. Ladders are by nature somewhat unstable. Anything that compromises the stability of base of the ladder compromises the bones in the neck of the operator. Are you sure that the table WILL NOT MOVE, even if it gets a couple of hundred pounds pushing against it, and that the legs of the ladder are so firmly rooted to the table that they won't move? I say a few hundred pounds, because that's the load of a normal person moving on the ladder.
And as you lean with a broom, you will be moving the center of gravity and creating a rotational motion. This could cause the table to flip over.
The right solution is a longer ladder. Can you borrow a longer ladder from a neighbor? If not, make sure you've got someone standing by that can dial 911.
