Decisions Decisions, I have been involved with Saabs since 1979 wern I started as a tech for what was then a small VT dealership handling Saab, Volvo, Fiat & Renault (Yuk)after about six months I got into a massive arguement with the service manager over his incompetence, unaware that the dealership owner was standing right behind me.After trip to his office (where I knew I would be fired)I was told that I now had the SM's job and he was fired. The following year I moved to sales where I stayed for eighteen years. I'st Order of the Griffin in VT and eventually made it to level 5. My first Saab was a 1978 99 Turbo one of about 100 in the country which one of my techies stuffed into the side of a rollback wrecker carrying a Lincoln town car while pulling out of MacDonalds across a 2 lane street the guy in the first lane stopped to let him out the wrecker in the second lane didn't. He hit the wrecker right in the saddle tank which ripped it completely off and as the truck was moving ahead it tore the rear axle off the right side so the chassis was sitting on top of what was left of my Rare and prized 99. Since there was about 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled The Rutland FD come and foamed the bejeezus out of everything.Unfortunately the techie walked away unharmed ( at least until we left the scene). I then found a beautiful 81 900 3dr Turbo no stories sold it at 195k for a 1 yr old 85 923M white w blue SPG wheels, suspension, and computer. this one I lost at 160k in a divorce (sure do miss that car).I now run a little used car store I try to cover all of the bases but overall I am a used Saab Dealer. So what I'm getting at is that I do know a little bit about Saab Automobiles!! And what I would recomend is to BUY A 9-3 although they have gone through a lot of changes the dumbest of which was going to a transverse mounted engine it is still a version of the 900 Turbo which they have been building since 1979 which was a streched version of the 99 which they had been building since ??/1970. This has given them a long time to get it almost right but there are still some things to watch for. Differential bushings for one. axle joints and drivers are another. Drive the car, if there is any shaking especially at a steady 60 MPH then light acceleration it is a problem. I have purchased and sold a lot of them and learned that "IT AIN'T JUST WHEEL BALANCE". at best it's a bent wheel which is very common especially if it's been taken to Jack $#!t's garage for tire changes. At worst it is a $1200.00 mistake. I can't use this BB to sell you a car but I can tell you that I know how to pick em. if you need any more help eMe.
