$60.00 !? Posted by PGAero [Email] (#1143) [Profile/Gallery] (more from PGAero) on Thu, 30 Aug 2007 09:30:38 In Reply to: Going to take this opportunity to plug Maui Jim lenses, Saabinhappy, Thu, 30 Aug 2007 08:36:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a pair of Vuarnet glasses, and, more recently, bought some polarized Smiths. After 10-12 years, I broke the Vuarnets. Although they were out of warranty, a $25.00 check got me new frames (My lenses were fine). While the glass lenses are heavy, they are optically some of the best I've gazed through. They are polarized, and I'll go so far as to say that the polarization seems to be better than most others I've tried. (Much better than my Smiths).
My Smith polycarbonate lenses seem terribly cheap. Way too many scratches for only having them three years. Being much lighter than my Vuarnets, I use my Smiths while running/riding/hiking/skiing/etc. I'll try some other brand before I buy new Smith glasses. Granted, the lenses on my Smiths are interchangeable, so maybe I'll be getting replacement lenses.
Lately, I've been impressed with Native Eyewear. My girlfriend's Natives recently broke. Their lifetime warranty includes a $30.00 fee and a no-questions-asked policy.
Seems to me that $60.00 will buy a pair of fairly nice polarized/polycarbonate sunglasses (not retail price, but who pays that anyway?) I guess in the case of Maui Jim, that's exactly what they charge... over and over again? (It looks like the price of admission to wear Maui Jims is about $200+. I should try some on again, it's been a few years. I'll probably find that they don't fit my oddly shaped face... that would be about par for the course.)
Now, as to the question raised by the originator of this thread, I doubt that the Ray Ban logo can be removed from the lens without scratching it. Maybe I'm wrong. Have you tried hot water and a sharp fingernail? ie. will it scrape off with something softer than the lens?
