Chip seemed to be saying that "If you give him a green piece of paper with value (money) and he loses it, his problem, but if you give him a white piece of paper with value (credit slip or check) and he loses it, your problem."

Actually, this is an old ethical argument: is the ethics of an act in the action or in the results of the action? Goes like this: if you see a drowning man and you throw him a life preserver but he gets entangled in the rope and strangles himself, was your act ethical or not? Is it the throwing or the saving that makes the act ethical? Chip seems to think it's the saving, as have many other ethical philosophers.
