So I've done it -- gone over to the dark side.

After 3 years with an '01 9-3 SE and 3 years with an '04 9-5 Aero Wagon, there just isn't anything in SAAB's current stable that does it for me. I think the current 9-5's are hideous - front end reminds me of a gangly teenager with braces. And the car is really getting long in the tooth. Love the exterior of the 9-3 Sport Combi but the inside is, well let's face it -- kinda "plasticy" and cheap feeling.

All it took was sitting inside a 328xi Wagon & I was won over. The fit and finish is really just impecable - a solidness that I just don't see in the latest SAABs. And as soon as I drove it -- that engine is like silk & not a hint of any creaks or squeaks when driving over rough road.

Not that I don't have regrets. I will truly miss the uniqueness of driving a SAAB vs. a 3-Series (the Toyota Camry of Southern California). Also still love the understated Scandinavian elegance of the SAAB vs. the "Look at Me" flashiness of some of the other European marques. I'm definitely also losing a lot of cargo room - don't think I'll be able to fit patio furniture in the new car like in my 9-5.

Anyone else currently going through the same experience and guilty feelings?

I've truly enjoyed this board and am sure I'll continue to lurk here now and then. Maybe in 3 years when my current lease is up there will be some exciting new product that wins me back to SAAB.

In the meantime, there's an '04 9-5 Aero Wagon (Stick with 2-toned black & tan seats) that I just turned into SAAB of Santa Monica that needs a loving new home.

--Saying so long (for now) to SAAB.
