Simple styling, less chrome, more paint. Even black plastic is better than chrome.
A well thought-out cockpit (that says "SAAB", not "Saturn"), more gauges, fewer idiot lights, comfortable, functional, controls that can be identified by touch.
Hatchback... period.
AWD for the johnny-racers and FWD for those who no longer feel they have to impress their neighbours.
A stereo system that is not 10 years out of date (HD radio, bluetooth connectivity, etc.).
4-cylinder turbos that get over 35 mpg.
No trucks, SUVs or minivans.
A decent cupholder for the American market.
And make it all reliable!
