The Santos is very easy to use, basically, you just put the amount of water you want to use in the bottom and put that on the stove to boil. Meanwhile, put the amount of coffee you want to use in the top part (it has a little stand it can rest on when not on the bottom part). When you start to see the water boil, put the top onto the bottom (there's a rubber gasket that seals the two together), the water will get sucked up out of the bottom and into the top part. Turn the heat down to low to keep it up in the top part for a couple of minutes, then turn it off. As the bottom chamber cools, it sucks the coffee back down. Once it's there, take the top off and put it back on it's stand, then pour a cup and if you have extra, put it in a thermos. Done. There's no paper filter, just a spring loaded thingy that keeps the grounds up in the top part. Makes great smooth coffee!
There's also another kind called the Yama, which uses a cloth filter that can be washed and re-used. I've heard good things about that one, but until I break the Santos (hopefully never), I won't be able to justify yet another coffee device.
