If it's all about additives to reduce valve deposits, why not just run a can of Techron every few tankfuls? All the major brands have an assortment of additives these days. Many have ethanol. Some brands even say they have Techron in the gas.
I think there's probably be a difference from a chemical engineering or other technical point of view, but that doesn't mean it's important on a day-to-day basis.
Remember, some of this (maybe a lot) is pure marketing. I'd like to see proof like you see in the studies where an engine is torn down after 200K on synthetic oil and they measure the wear.
