If you are looking strictly for natuaral stone, a real off-the-beaten-path place is International Marble and Granite Supply, aka Stone City. They have a couple of huge warehouses filled with stone (claim to have 3 million sq. ft. in stock). They have some kitchen vignettes built up, but I'm not sure if they are the most numerous or the best. If I recall (it's been a few years since I was last there), the main showroom is at 3053 W. Grand Ave (look above the front door to see why this place is dear to me), their other location is across the street and down the block at 2950 W. Grand Ave. Note that this is not a particularly nice neighborhood, highly industrial, bordering on Humboldt Park.
