the cost will probably be prohibitive. when i worked at a camera store here in santa barbara, people were often surprised at how much service would be at either the manufacturer or the independent shops.

the manufacturer will service the whole camera but they have a "flat rate" repair fee. it will usually be about $100.00 if the shop uses normal markup (one of the few places camera stores can make money nowadays).

the independent shops will be less, usually, but it will probably around $50-75.00.

either way, you can expect the time to be at least 2 weeks for the independent guys, and about 4-6 weeks for the factory service. it may be cheaper to replace the camera.

if the moisture is between the lens elements themselves, replacing them is about the most reasonable option. if it's on the outer surfaces of the lenses then you can clean them if you're careful. if you decide to try it yourself, the toughest part will usually be getting the case apart.

you may be able to get a copy of the parts pages from the service area of the manufacturer so that you have an idea of how they go together, they're very much like jigsaw puzzles. there are usually a lot of fragile tabs holding things in/on/down as well.

you can also try to heat the camera enough to dry out the moisture, but this is a little risky. NOTE, if you decide to do this, i bear no responsibility for your success or failure!

take out the batteries, take off the cord, and take out the memory card. turn the oven on a low heat (200 degrees max). put the camera on a piece of tinfoil. let it heat for about 20 minutes. use oven mitts to take it out of the oven, and handle it gently till it cools down. reload everything and give it a shot (no pun intended) :-)

hope this helps!

mark :-)
