We have a system that is quite old, but fast 2.6gHz, that had 512 RAM. Then in the last few months has became slow. It was a memory issue with page swapping. What we run and do has not changed. Increased to 1.5GB and things are great. We run a tight ship with AVG, Ada-Aware and Spybot; infection not likely. Defrag every PM. Services and startups tightly controlled.

But why the change?

Microsoft placing memory demands in XP security updates to cripple XP [buy a new system with Vista]?

Demands of virus checkers on memory getting pumped up to deal with current threats [AVG Internet Security 7.5 here]? Slowness not so bad with AVG turned off, but still note right.

Anyone else have similar concerns?

The subject system is a RamBus RDram system... Around $300/GB. Be happy that you do not have that!
