Help fixing a friend's electric window Posted by Rod [Email] (#3128) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rod) on Mon, 28 Jan 2008 18:17:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My wife volunteered me to help fix her (young, tall, blonde) work friend's electric window on her Chevy Monte Carlo. When you press the switch, the window moves a fraction of an inch and then stops. I tried the easy stuff first, cleaning out the switchpack, but that made no difference. I took off the door panels to get at the motor and removed that. The motor ran when not connected to the window mechanism, and seemed quite strong, but I'm not sure how to tell if it is functioning properly.
My one concern is that I couldn't move the window manually, however hard I tried. I jammed a screwdriver into the gear teeth and tried to move it both ways, but got nowhere. My question is should the window be that hard to move by hand? I am wondering if there is a mechanical jam, rather than a motor problem.
Thanks for any input.
