Does the SID say "test brake lights"? Or does it say "test brakes"?

The "test brakes" message is normal on older Saabs. The system is set on older Saabs (say, between approx 1998 and 2004) to show the "test brakes" message when the car is started up. Then, when you tap the brake pedal, the system checks to make sure all the brake lights are working. If so, the "test brakes" message goes out.

Does the delay only occur when you get the "test brakes" message? If so, I wouldn't worry. Although I've never noticed this (and don't know why I would have,) the delay is probably due to this testing procedure. But, if the delay occurs at other times (i.e. when the "test brakes" message is not illuminated,) then you likely have a problem.
