My neighbopr uses a local oil change service and as most do they use the same old drain washer it usually will leak so they use a 900 pound gorllla to torque it up. I am trying to convince my neighbor to DIY it since it is a good easy job. When he tried to remove the drain plug he used a good fitting socket and a hinge handle. He almost rolled the car over but the plug would not come out. I loaned him my 24 inch handle still no go - we heated the crankcase a little in the area around the bolt and it still seemed welded to the pan. Fib=nally I put it on my rack and used a 36 inch hinge handle and broke it loose. The copper washer wqas literally cold fusion welded to the drain plug and there were spots where it had seized to the pan.

Here is somnething that can eliminate the problem and seal every time. Save several old washers or buy some new ones and heat with a propane torch until a slightly green flame appears, at that point drop them into cold water. This will take the washers from a C-38, C-40 Rockwell to a B-45-50 which is dead soft. These can be torqued in finger tight plus a little grunt and never leak. The plugs will now come out easily with a little tug on the wrench. They seal well and you save a buck or so. If you do not do your own oil then carry a spare washer with you and advise to change the washer and use light torque - less than 25-30 inch pounds. This should make their eyes glaze over! And while at it, U may wish to change to magnetic drain plug. I have some washers that have been annealed six or eight times Pitch them at that point because they are getting loose on the plug.
