What about traffic school?
I don't know what state you are in, but in California, you can request traffic school as long as you haven't had a ticket in the past 18-months. When you complete traffic school and return the completion certificate to the court, your ticket is erased. But, the rule is that in order to get traffic school, you must plead guilty and request traffic school; if you plead not guilty and contest the ticket, you are supposedly ineligible for traffic school. I say "supposedly" because sometimes judges will have mercy and grant traffic school (and the subsequent erasure of the ticket) if they feel sympathetic to someone who protested their ticket, but were found guilty.
To exercise the traffic school option, you must pay the fine for the ticket AND a fee to the school for the class. But since the ticket doesn't show up on your record, it can save you $$ on insurance. In some counties, you can request traffic school (and pay the fine) over the internet. In others, you must go to the court clerk in person, but you typically don't have to face the judge.
The traffic school is supposed to be an 8-hour class, but my experience in the past was that they were shorter -- somewhere around 6-hours. Now they have traffic school classes that you can take over the internet. They, too, are supposed to take 8-hours to complete, but i've completed a couple of them in less than 2-hours each.
Fortunately, I haven't received a ticket in at least 4 years! But if I were to get one, I'd certainly request traffic school. It means the ticket stays off my record, and (in Los Angeles County, at least) the entire affair can be handled over the internet from home.
The above info is valid for California -- your state may differ (and probably does.) I think it would be worth looking into the option of traffic school in whatever state you live in.
