A 2003? That's what your posts indicate on the 9-5 BB...so you already know what to expect with a 9-5. No worse in reliability than a 9-3SS. In fact, my 13 year old 9000 has proven more reliable than my dad's 3 year old 9-5 which always seems to have a niggling little problem.
Anyway, I don't know what dealer is telling you that, but that's pretty much bull. They want to sell you a 9-5 because they're more expensive or they have more to get rid of. From everything I've heard, the current 9-3SS is one of the most reliable Saabs ever, except for the 2003 and some early 2004 models.
As for the snow issue, it won't be any worse than the 9-5, which isn't the best snow car Saab ever built (see C900, 9000).
