When my daughter came home in mid-winter with no heat in her '95 9K I didn't have time to do a proper diagnosis, but rigged it up so she had heat all the time. A necessity for her in Maine.
She was finally home again this past week so yesterday morning I determine that the ACC was toast, and she goes with me to a pick-a-part yard. There, for the amazing sum of $125 we acquire a working ACC, a rear wiper arm to replace her bad one, a cargo net for my wife's 9-5, a rear badge for my '96, a 4-way flasher switch, and a (much needed) passenger side footwell storage pocket that matches the interior of my '96 9K.
Knowing that several other parts of her car came from a boneyard (bumper, headlight, grille, door) my ever cost-conscious girl says, "How do people who don't know about places like this and can't fix their own cars afford to keep their cars going?" A very good question! The answer, of course, is they don't know any better and pay too much.
Nothing like a couple hours successfully poking at a car, spending a few bucks and saving a lot to make a day go well. Not to mention my kid's appreciation. A good day, even though it meant I didn't make it to Springtime in Sweden!
