I was selling VW's during the Westmoreland years, when Rabbits, Golfs and Jettas were made in Pennsylvania. At one time in 1990 you could buy the same identical Jetta built in Westmoreland, Puebla Mexico IIRC and Wolfsburg Germany. I put the US made VW's at the bottom of that totem pole.
Newer manufacturing methods might level the playing field though as even US manufacturers are making some pretty well screwed together cars outside as well as inside.
The Fox was the Brazilian Voyage, the little north/south Audi Fox chassis, very sturdy simple little car, and that made it in a SportWagon.....
