Not the full solution.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 23 May 2008 09:56:36 In Reply to: Oil change intervals and warm and fuzzy feeling, J, Fri, 23 May 2008 06:32:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Having served a short stint as a Supervisor in a Heavy Equipment repair facility, I can assure you the very expensive construction equipment had engine and transmission oil samples collected and analyzed at frequent intervals.
Changing at oil 15k may be fine, but you should be having analysis performed at much shorter intervals, say 5k, to stop any problems before they become serious.
With a 4 litre sump in my 9-5, I can D-I-Y the oil and filter with full synthetic for the cost of an oil analysis. And I don't have to wait a week or two to know the results! Therefore, I change at 5K intervals and recycle the old oil.
