Familiar with both Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 10 Jun 2008 06:36:25 In Reply to: Audiworld Changed Their BB Format..., Scott Paterson [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 6 Jun 2008 21:49:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Our other car is a 1996 Audi A4, so I have a LOT of familiarity with the Audiworld site. Yes, many of the BB for the newer models have endless threads fretting about appearance add-ons, but what else are you going to worry about if you have four years of free maintenance plus a huge choice of accessories available? If you dig deeper, there are a lot of intelligent discussions, particularly on the "engine development" BBs (i.e. "12V development" referring to the 12-valve V6 engine which was replaced ten years ago), which don't necessarily stay on the topic of engines (and the editors don't move the posts around).
Saabnet has a much friendlier online community, and I particularly enjoy the "General" BB, of which Audiworld has no equivalent. I'm not too familiar with the newer model SAAB BBs as my newest SAAB is a 9000, but people will go far out of their way to help you with problems with the older models.
Much as I like Saabnet, I find that the Audiworld format is much more user-friendly. Here are some of the things that I like:
* A cookie is set on all of my computers so I don't have to log-in or type my name and email ID every time I want to post something.
* The ability to edit or delete your own posts even after they are up on the site, so you can correct embarrassing typos or clarify a point after rereading it.
* You can show multiple pictures in a post, which really helps when describing a procedure (or for comparing various wheel choices - LOL!).
* The search function and filters are much better, plus they show an excerpt of the post which helps you decide whether to open it or not.
* BBs can be displayed in a collapsed or expanded format.
* Some people have very creative signatures, I don't.
Audiworld has a staff and I imagine a lot more advertising revenue, as Audis outsell SAABs by several times. Scott, for a one-man show, I think that you are doing a fabulous job. If you want additional user feedback, send me an email.
