2007 9-5 Aero with A/T Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 10:03:48 In Reply to: Drive like an old man in a Buick, Noel, Mon, 23 Jun 2008 09:30:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm doing several different things and the results are pretty good.
22-24mpg in very local, and 28-35mpg on the open road.
1) I check the tires every 1-2 weeks and keep the cold pressure at 36psi.
2) I stay on top of the maintenance.
3) A light foot does matter.
4) 55-65mph yields 30-35mpg 75+mph yields high 27-30mpg.
5) I map and consolidate local trips for less driving and lower gas usage.
6) I'm thinking of making my huge mother-in-law walk.
7) A/C usage. I plan to do some tests. I've read that it doesn't make a difference at highway speeds; wind resistance with the windows open negates A/C-off savings. I'm curious about what the results might be around town where wind resistance is less of a factor.
8) Presently, I'm using 235X17X45 tires. I know from prior experience with my 2000 9-5 Aero that dropping to 205X16X55 can yield an additional 3-4mpg. This jump always occurred when I put on my winter snow tires. In exchange for mpg some handling prowess is sacrificed.
