Wavey, I am in full agreement with you and like you, after having owned 5 Saab ('83 900, '92 9000CDE, '95 900SE, '95 9000Aero-I miss her, 01 93S-E), I too am looking for another brand that I can commit to.
And after seeing a Pontiac V-8 this weekend that was in and out the '08 Saab 9-3, my worst fear have been confirmed. Saab in no longer a brand unto itself.
In a Ted Koppel documentary to air on the Discovery Channel about China, I notice an interesting thing that GM is doing there with Buick. Because the Chinese view the Buick as a luxury brand, GM is marketing as a standalone brand via single brand dealership. And it amazing what psychological shift occurs when you see a brand in that light. What person, incline to purchase a BMW, Audi, or Volvo, is interested in buyer cars from a GM dealer selling Saabs alongs side Chevys, Olds, and the other myriad of GM mass brands?
GM has / is killing Saab and best they can do for the brand is sell it. And it couldn't happen soon enough.
