have always looked at them from a new technology standpoint and considered purchaing one, after our Hoove finally dies... It won't. Have replaced the drive rubber band on it in 15 years of owning it. It has power drive (you can shut it off) so that doing the carpets, both hi nap and berber smooth nap is pretty effortless. It packs all of it's acessories in the body of the unit (the crevice tool, the 2 straight extention tubes, some other end pieces) and has a flexible hose that you unlock to move to external hose usage rather than the floor. It does have two accessories that don't fit into the body, a long flex hose and a suction driven end that has a beater bar - very good for doing the couch and other material items that are up from the floor. All in all it's done a great job. Of course the newer similar model has a few changes, my neighbor finally killed their old vacuum and borrowed ours. They went to Costco and purchased the current like model.
