I'm somewhat sympathetic to the argument that a 2-door would be stiffer than a 4-door, and also think that side visibility is better for the driver on the 2-door (but a wide-angle driver's mirror fixes that).
But exit from the back seat in a hurry is much harder. There was a report on a BMW board I used to frequent about three guys who went canyon-carving above Malibu in an M3 coupe. The driver lost it in a turn and hit a tree. The two people in the front got out without serious injuries, the guy in the back seat burned to death.
