From your post (and reading between the lines, you didn't mention your height for that 165 lbs) I am guessing that you are not living a very healthy lifestyle.
You are what you eat: Try eating more fruits and vegetables. Eat little red meat and instead eat chicken, turkey, and fish. Cut out bread and processed grains including crackers and such. If you want bacon, buy Oscar Meyer turkey bacon (no other brand, they are terrible).
You are what you do with what you eat: Exercise more, at least 30-45 minutes PER DAY. Run, ride, swim, lift, do something. Do it EVERY day. Start slow and let yout doctor guide you while your BP is high.
In six months you lose 20 lbs of fat, gain 10 lbs of muscle, your clothes will fit again, you will look good and FEEL GREAT. Sure, it takes willpower, but it's worth it. Most people can reduce their BP and cholestorol without drugs if they just live a healthy lifestyle.
PS - you're only 41 - get to it before you end up one of those restricted older folks that labors through their later years on a diet of pills prescribed by the drug company driven health care we now enjoy.
