And therein lies the problem.
Saab has always been a regional car with the majority of cars being sold in the northeast. I wonder if GM uses that data to place more of a particular model/brand in regions where they are more likely to sell rather than just strewing all their models/brands across the country and hoping for the best. Since there is so much parts sharing across the brands, why not just place the appropriate brand dealerships in the focused areas where the particular brands are the strongest sellers. They could always offer a brand or model by special order and have it shipped in if someone is looking for something hard to find in their region. Then you could just have Chevy and Cadillac dealerships in every reagion to offer GMs biggest sellers. I suppose this would put the kibosh on the purchase-after-the-awesome-test-drive option though.
I live in the northeast myself, and there is certainly no shortage of Saabs on the road where I live. My local Saab dealer has 2 Turbo X's on the lot.
