I understand your care factor with a winter Saab. My beloved '96 900SET (268,000) was my winter car in NY while my '99 conv. stayed home gathering snow. I washed the car every chance I could!
I ran snows on both cars and both were amazing in foul weather. My previous 900 ('80 900T) was also a real trooper in Chicago winters with Potenza all-season tires. That car could plow through anything!
That's not to say that other brands aren't great in winter too, but why have Saab envy when a cool 900/9-3 drives by? You might check the CarTalk website (NPR) for some advice too.
