Have you tried repairing the existing element? I've repaired a dozen or so myself, and never replaced one. The break is usually easy to find. I strip back a quarter inch of insulation or so, and solder the pieces together (after slipping some heat shrink tubing over it). If the break is big, I'll jumper in some thin speaker wire.
Benzine is hard to get because of its carcinogenic effects - and that's true of most solvents that'll work on glue. About all I could recommend would be alcohol.
But I suggest trying to repair it.
