new-to-me 9-5 vs MB E-class

Any MB owners out there?
Couple MB dealers near me know I'm a value consumer -- i.e., buy an upscale car coming off lease -- and have been wooing me with relative off-lease bargains.
But I'm thinking: 1) for the same year/mileage, the 9-5 is still at least $10K cheaper, and 2) I've driven Saabs for the past 20 years, and 3) I hear MBs are costlier to maintain than Saabs(though the dealer says I prolly wouldn't miss the small diff).
Dealer also said he wouldn't sell me an '03 E-class, but they improve after that.
I'd put the C-class into my maybe list, but they're still more than the 9-5 and almost as much as an E-class, so I'm not seeing the point there.
And it's hard to overlook that, for $10K less, the 9-5 offers 260hp/258fp.
Yes, the Saab future is uncertain. But that might be a price advantage.
The missus points out, "You don't like cruises, so why not spend that money on a car you'll enjoy for 10 years?" Actually, the little weasel thinks I'd have to slow down for turns in a Benz and wouldn't have a manual.
Anyway, I have plenty of time to consider, and your opinions and/or experience are welcome.
Thanks,
Kevin
