We all know that these are bad economic times. So, some of my comments consider that.
1. Make all payents with a major credit card. You'll have 60 days to report a problem such as the furniture never being delivered due to any problem.
2. Be aware that any deposits you've made will be lost if the store you're doing business with goes under. This is a real consideration in these bad economic times.
3. You can save a lot of money if you're willing to consider floor samples or in-stock items. This also would help you avoid exposure to loss of your money in the event of a bankrupcy.
4. If you're making a large purchase from one establishment, pursue additional discounts; they are there.
5. Don't completely rule out consignment shops offering used furniture. Sometimes ridiculous steals are available.
6. Don't rush. In these bad economic times, you are absolutely in the driver's seat.
7. As for value.... good quality furniture costs a little extra. My wife and I like Swedish/Scandanavian furniture. We have furniture that we b ought 25 years ago that still looks new. If you can't afford high-end furniture for everything consider at least getting a good bedroom set.....you'll really understand this after 25 years....you will have spent 1/3 of your life there.
8. As for style.... you and your fiance will have to work that out together.
The best....
