...another mindless diatribe labeling Accord and Camry owners as drones just "following the herd". Perhaps the masses have good reason for purchasing these cars in such numbers - like safety, reliability and value.
Complaining about the prevalence of these cars is legitimate if you're in to broadcasting your "individuality" on the road, but the much cited Saab safety supremacy over other models is a hollow argument from a bygone era. I'd much rather have my family riding in my recent vintage Camry, with it's better crash ratings and full curtain side air bags than my 2000 9-5, whose safety design was cutting edge in 1998 but is now antiquated.
As for the Asian "appliance" label that is so often tossed around, more uninformed BS. My 1994 Accord EX is quick, reliable and responsive, awesome brakes and unbelieveable build quality. It has never left me stranded in fifteen years of ownership. Wish I could say that about the 9-5, but DIC, TB and fuel pump issues dictated otherwise.
Yeah, the 9-5 is also fun to drive, in a sort of tanky '80s MBZ way. I would've dumped it by now, but the resale value sucks so bad I keep it around as a proxy for a truck (it's a wagon)
