There is no definitive way to answer the question right now. All you can co is speculate since none of us knows what financing will, or will not, occur to allow Saab to continue as a functioning entity. Neither do we know the details of whether GM could be forced to honor some obligations of its captive subsidiary, especially ones that might be tied to federal regulatory requirements.

There is the rather real risk that the entity just goes bust, in which case there may be nothing to claim against. If it limps along in some new form, again it is not known what prior obligations will honored or not. The news reports indicate that, for the moment, the Swedish law would prohibit any payment on obligations existing before the reorganization petition was filed with the court.

If it comes to bust, I could imagine, in a far fetched manner, class action litigation against GM to try to pierce the corporate veil and force GM liability for promises made through its SAAB division. That is a very tough claim to sustain, time consuming, expensive.

The reality is that for now we do not know what will occur. To make any deal on a new Saab right now would be risky because no one knows what entity will stand behind it in the future.

Chatter about existing agreements one has, such as warranties of various kinds, will be just that, chat, until more information comes forth.

If anyone presents a claim after today, it would be very interesting to the list to hear what occurred.

This is just dismaying. Like many, I like my car very much. For some time now I have trying to grapple with having to part with a car that I would rather keep.
