Well, I practice law in America too and have some understanding of bankruptcy law even though that is not my field. I guess what I wonder is how similar is Swedish bankruptcy to US bankruptcy. Presumably, the debts of Saab are also debts of the parent GM, so I don't know how a Saab only bankruptcy helps GM.
But I think the next few months will be an extraordinary time to buy Saab. I have four now and no room for a fifth, but I am sure the deals will be so great that even having poor availability of parts will still be worth it for awhile.
I have a great independent mechanic so I am not worried. As long as I can get parts from a boneyard, I will be ok.
But I sure hate to see them go out of business. They are truly unique cars and the world needs more small car companies and fewer giant ones.
It is a sad day. But I really don't see how a small country like Sweden can support two car companies. I really think Saab and Volvo need to merge with major financial support from the Swedish government.
The Swedes need the manufacturing base and the jobs. But they have also got to be upset that both Ford and GM took their brands and took manufacturing elsewhere. I would not expect Sweden to shell out any money unless the manufacturing and jobs stay in Sweden.
