If nothing else, Russian ownership of Saab could make for interesting advertising opportunities. The Russian Primary Chronicle (ca 12th century), which describes the origins of Russia, tells how Rurik, a viking from Sweden, was invited to be chieftan of Novgorod in the 9th century in an effort to bring an element of stability to the region. In the context of later history, Rurik can be considered the 1st czar of Russia.
Besides providing western European technological perspectives and worldwide marketing exposure, Saab would provide its Russian owners a little bit of unique historical prestige for coming to the rescue of the official purveyor of automobiles to the Court of Sweden.
I like the idea.
