What's the best way to replace a single blown tire? Posted by Caarl [Email] (#447) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Caarl) on Sun, 8 Mar 2009 17:09:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had a tire develop a sidewall bubble and have to replace it. Thankfully, I'm on my winter tires still and so have time to deal with it at some leisure. The set has about 20,000 miles and is probably good for another 20,000. I could just replace the one tire, and suffer a left-right imbalance. I might worry about that on the front as it seems like it would create wear & tear on the differential. I could just leave the new one on the rear until the wear on one or two of the remaining tires is bad and then replace the whole set at once.
Another option is to replace two tires. Then it's more of a pain because I'll be replacing tires two at a time from then on, which makes it harder if I want to switch to another type of tire. I'd be leery of mixing tires of different types.
FWIW it's a 9-5 Aero and the tires are Nokian Z's (which are directional). I hadn't decided if I'd stick with the Z's next time. They're great tires, but not cheap and people on this side of the country (even Nokian dealers!) whine a lot when you ask for them.
Ideas/suggestions/warnings/horror stories/etc?
Thanks for listening,
Carl
