I love this site. The two screws TKC suggested to remove the front panel shows most all. A testimony to old Maytags that with 2 machines over 30 years I've never needed to take one of those panels off. What fun to see this simple but durable system.
I watched the machine go through the cycles. I generally let it soak an hour or more during the wash cycle to let those enzymes work. Zero leakage during the fill/wash/drain/rinse fill. When draining the rinse, water began coming from somewhere in the back of the tub as if spilling over the top of the tub. Seemed to be a lot at first, then slowed quickly. Not really a lot of water altogether, and I don't think there was enough to even escape the sloped bottom panel of the washer onto the floor.
Meantime, I'm checking the pump and hoses around the pump for signs of leakage and see none. Then after it is all empty I notice there is about a 1 tablespoon puddle under the pump. After much searching I think maybe the drain hose connection at the pump was a bit damp, so I snugged that clamp a bit, which should be enough to stop any leak there. I'll keep watching.
The leaking around the tub bothers me a bit. Looks like it has been doing this a while from around the back as the bottom lip of the tub looks a bit rusty. Before I pull the back panel too, any ideas?
Thanks to all for giving me the confidence to pull that panel and see how things work in person as well as on the web!
