The data for your audio is probably recorded properly, especially if you can go back and hear it, but there is probably a bug in the decoder part of the audio codec. If the Motorola unit has software upgrade capability, you might want to consider trying it out (but not right before something that you want to record is going to be on!).
Unfortunately, this is 100% par for the course in today's multimedia electronics, my current area of work. "Time to market" is a huge differentiator in who will get contracts awarded for tens of thousands of units; products usually ship before they are completely debugged (if that ever happens) to meet schedules, or the errors don't show up in normal testing but do appear in field use.
