Saab engines have always been about air flow thru the motor -- really important on a 2-stroke. Turbo motors really like to breathe too.
Saab cars have always been able to maintain high average cruising speed.
I once drove my 66 special 60 miles across central pa in 50 minutes -- on 2 lane rural pennsylvania roads ( it was 2 am ) 72 mph average speed from 56 hp. I know for a fact that my '03 aero gets 24 mpg at 100 mph. And in standing start 1/8 mile my 78 ems on dry pavement, screaming 2nd gear,is just as fast as the '06 aero combi w/hakka's in 4 inches of fresh snow.I think that's excellent progress.
