Well, Honda tried this (first time anyone used it on a mass-produced motorcycle on their (then) new 1998 VFR800:
High-pressure-formed aluminum/ceramic/graphite composite cylinder sleeves: lighter than steel sleeves, better wear resistance and heat dissipation qualities.
I bought one of these new, and this engine has been as bullet-proof as any ever made.
I've never ridden a Guzzi, but have always been intrigued by them.
There's only a single dealer in the entire state of Indiana, but three Honda dealers in Fort Wayne alone. My VFR has never been to a dealer since I bought it, but dealer support might be a concern.
good luck
Ed
