Desmodromic valves are a characteristic of Ducatis, not Guzzis. I like Ducatis too, but I think you would have to pull the engine from the frame to do even the simplest maintenance! Desmodromic valve actuation is similar to Saab's console mounted ignition switch; it made perfect sense at one time but is now done primarily for tradition only.
I think Ducati is even moving away from using this double mechanical actuation of engine valves. I seem to remember it is now used only on their highest performance engines, all their other engines have valve springs to close the valves.
