On Star is a sham. It's only useful under a very narrow set of very low percentage occurances. As insurance, it must be about the most expensive gamble on the planet.
First you have to be in an accident (unusual), and it has to be a severe accident (more unusual). Then it either has to be so severe that you and your passengers are unconscious or that you are severly injured and can't call on your cell (or if we are to believe the commercials - so severe you can't call on your cell, but that you can converse with the On-star operator).
At the same time, it has to occur where no one else will call emergency services for you (no one going by) but that there is still cell service.
Sure, I can imagine a circumstance where it might help, but the odds are incredibly low that you'd actually need it. Maybe if you are a suspenders and belt kind of guy who always buys the extended warrany on everything it fits you. If you buy insurance for what you really need to cover, it's a waste of money. MHO.
