While I can't vouch for what is "good" in NH, VT & MN, here in NJ, the primary piece of information they are looking for is that the seller signed the title. I've bought many cars this way. I write my name down, sign it, and all is OK.
Sometimes the title has an odometer statement, that, too, should have been signed by the seller.
A bill of sale is often a good backup to the title. When the buyer goes to title the vehicle, the old title is confiscated by the new title issuing state. With a bill of sale, both parties have a record of the transaction.
As for the implications (I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV), NJ, and I presume most states, have regulations that you should title/register/whatever any vehicle within X days of bringing it in. This is rarely, if ever, enforced, at least here. They take the tax money and the fees, and all is well.
I wouldn't do anything with the title, simply hand it to the buyer as-is. If they're uneasy with it, then you always have the option of titling it in your name, and selling it with that title...
