Titles and Selling Posted by Wayfarer [Email] (#479) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Wayfarer) on Fri, 8 May 2009 11:28:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I bought a 1996 Saab 900 last November in New Hampshire, I live in Vermont, and I was going to part it out but I never did. I did get a Temporary tag for it to drive it to Minnesota for Christmas and back. But I never titled it because I didn't think I was going to be driving it. Now I've got it for sale and today I see that the guy I bought it from didn't put my name down on the title. I've got a bill of sale so that transfer was on the up and up.
Now I wonder if I can sell it without getting a new title and just putting the new buyer's name on the the title. Of course it isn't legal, it would only cost me about $75 but I would turn around that savings to the new buyer. I also would be informing the buyer of the situation.
My questions are thus:
1. Do I need to give a bill of sale? (I wouldn't go so far as to misrepresent myself on paper)
2. What are the implications of this, other than the state being out $48 in tax?
