...that actually isn't a bad idea. It would give Lotus a dealer network along with a relatively mainstream car to sell. They could start applying their suspension, engine technology and basic philosphy to Saabs (for years Lotus' top of the line car was a turbo 4 cylinder that was a player in a world of V8's and V12's). Saabs have always been relatively simple and light weight compared to the German competition. Lotus could take that several steps further. Saab could become a very distinctive, light weight, fuel efficient, fantastic handling alternative to the bloated, overly complex competition. Imagine a 9-3 the same size as a 3 series/A4 but that weighs 6 or 700 pounds less. With a ramped up turbo 2.0 of say 250 horse (not undoable) and a Lotus suspension it would smoke them in performance, handling and fuel economy. Take the same approach with the 9-5. And you could probably sell them for less money. I'd really love to see Saab to stop trying to do the same things these guys are doing (AWD, V6's etc) and go back to being an ALTERNATIVE to these guys like they used to be.
