About the nail clipper, that's exactly what happened to me up at the Manchester, NH airport a few years ago. But as someone who flies 2 or 3 times a month from various airports, I can tell you you are now allowed to carry a nail clipper (with file) if it's in your carry-on. They may not come out and say so but they have loosened up a lot. I've noticed they don't follow up much re placing small container of liquied, ie, shampoo, etc, in a separate bag, either. I carry all that kind of stuff including a nail clipper within my carry-on and have never been stopped. I don't know what would happen if you pulled it out of your pocket and placed it in the tray. I'd like to take my tiny Swiss Army knife with me when I travel but I'm not quite ready to take that chance and have them confiscate it.
