You have a good point. How much brake dust doesn't stick to the wheels and is (horror of horrors) simply washed from the ground during the next rain storm?
As a resident of California, I have to admit I've never heard of such a thing as these ads. Then again, I lost my one TV channel to the digital revolution, and I live a long way from LA county.
Now, to the JDPower "quality" study... including brakes dust in a study and publication about the quality of a car is a bit disingenuous. And brake dust is part of having good brakes. Cleaning my car's wheels is the price I'll gladly pay to have brakes which feel good, and perform well.
