I used a Brinkman electric for years, it finally gave up the ghost a few years back. I was pretty happy with it. I got it for free, so have no idea how much it cost, but at the time (would have been mid-90's) I think they ran around $100. It could be messy to clean up (as others have noted - I think that's just something that smokers tend to feature), but it was easy to add more liquid/chips mid-smoke. It had a three section design, the top, the mid-section that had 2 racks in it, and the bottom with the heating element. You could lift off the mid & top combo while smoking,
add more chips around the heating element, the put it back on - since the top was still on the top part, the heat stayed in pretty well. Adding more liquid was a little more work, you had to take the top off, remove the
top rack with whatever was on it, then pour around whatever was on the bottom rack, but I seldom needed to do that more than once per smoke, and for chicken or fish, I usually didn't need to replenish at all.
I've been thinking about a new smoker lately, so follow up with what you get and how you like it, please!
